In recent years the Orleans Improvement Association has organized a holiday decoration contest for businesses on Main Street and homeowners along Beach Road. The theme this year is “A Seaside Christmas”. Some decorations are very original, including the 5-foot starfish outlined in white lights along the hedges in front of the Ships Knees Inn. One decoration on Beach Road depicts the messages from recent protests around the country.

The winners will be announced on December 14th at “Carols & Cocktails” hosted by the Orleans Chamber of Commerce. The first prize is $250; the Second prize is $100, the Third prize is $75.

Last year’s winner was “Weekend” – the boutique store in E. Orleans.
