Record-breaking winds pounded Orleans, but it managed to escape the snow that stalled New Englanders, and even those in New York City. While certainly not the worst snowstorm New England has faced, its timing right after Christmas left many travelers stranded, and gave many others a good excuse to stay close to home.

Our weather station on the Bluff measured a high of 66 mph, giving the blizzard hurricane-level winds with the speed of a highway car. Small damage was seen around Orleans, from the occasional damaged house on the Bluff to the ripped Post Office sign next to Zia’s restaurant. Residents seemed to weather the blizzard well, having seen more than their fair share of New England weather.
