Orleans awarded $27k from State to Improve Climate Change Resilience at Nauset Beach

The NHA Environmental Committee is pleased to share the following news: The Baker-Polito Administration announced over $1.8 million in funding to support local efforts to prepare for and reduce the impacts from coastal storms and climate change, including storm surge, flooding, erosion, and sea-level rise. Orleans was one of 19 communities to receive funds. July 4th North Spit ORV Access & Fireworks

Happy Fourth of July! This is a “head’s up” to remind everyone that Nauset Spit will be closed to ORV traffic after 8:30 PM over the weekend. We have also received a request from the Orleans Police Department cautioning residents not to shoot fireworks on, or over, the beach where piping plovers are nesting. If disturbed by fireworks, this may cause the plovers to re-nest and to lay fresh eggs, causing further closures of the beach to beach-goers and ORVs going forward. Nauset Heights Book Celebrates the Centennial

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Heights, Jim Tyng, a fourth-generation resident, chronicles its history and spirit in a new book, “Nauset Heights: A Cape Cod Community by the Sea.” Published by the Nauset Heights Association, this 125 page, the hardbound book traces the community’s history from its early settlements to the present day, with vintage photographs, maps, and eyewitness accounts. The Barnacles Barn Show July 4th

The Barnacles are playing one of their famous Barn Shows on Saturday, July 4th at 4 Standish Road. The show is open to all families and guests, but if you live on the Heights, please walk or get dropped off as parking is limited. The Barn is open at 7:00pm, music starts at 8:30pm. BYOB. Come enjoy what has become a wonderful summer tradition on the Heights.
