Janet Bush, NHA member, offered an informal walk and talk on the horseshoe crabs of Nauset Spit that, at 500 million years old, are one of the most ancient creatures on earth. Janet is a long-time Horseshoe Crab Volunteer for Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. She demonstrated how Audubon does spawning surveys and monitors the numbers of horseshoe crabs in Nauset Cove, and elsewhere on the Outer Cape, and discussed their spawning habits, their current medical use, and the threats they face today.
